Justin time... Bieber leaves it late to announce MTV show

Teen heartthrob Justin Bieber and superstar DJ/producer David Guetta are the latest acts confirmed to perform at the MTV EMAs this weekend, completing the line-up for the biggest party Belfast has ever staged.

Bieber (17) who has sold over 11 million CDs worldwide, was always expected to attend as he is dating the show's hostess, actress and popstar Selena Gomez.

While it's his first visit to Belfast, the EMAs mark a return trip for Guetta, who played the city last year as part of the Belsonic festival. Guetta will be joined at the Odyssey Arena this Sunday with some surprise collaborators.

Also jetting in for the night are a number of high-profile guest presenters, including pop sensation Katy Perry, a former host of the EMAs. Perry, who will be coming off tour, will not be performing, but is expected to hand over one of the awards. It is not known if she will be accompanied by husband, Russell Brand.

Joining Perry as a guest will be lead singer of Evanescence, Amy Lee, Heroes actress Hayden Panettiere, WWE superstar Sheamus, fashion designer Jeremy Scott, supermodels Irina Shayk — the Russian-born fiancee of Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo — and Bar Refaeli, former girlfriend of Hollywood actor Leonardo DiCaprio.

Completing the star-studded guest list is actor David Hasselhoff, who recently attended the Freshers' Ball at Queen's University.

The Hoff later said in an interview that he had had such a wonderful time in Belfast, he was considering buying a property in the city. Speaking about his upcoming Belfast appearance, Bieber, who releases his new album Under the Mistletoe today, said: “It's really exciting to be a part of the MTV EMAs this year. Can't wait to get to Belfast.”

In September, Bieber surprised his young girlfriend Selena Gomez when he cleared out an LA cinema for the night and over a candlelit dinner, the couple watched her favourite movie, Titanic.

Gomez told the Belfast Telegraph that she hoped to explore the Titanic Quarter when she arrives in Belfast later this week.

And Grammy award-winning producer and DJ David Guetta said he was also looking forward to coming to Belfast for the EMAs.

“Performing at the 2011 MTV EMAs is a big deal for any artist, but for a DJ, it's a first. I'll be joined by some of my special guest collaborators. I'm excited and honoured — it’s going to be a crazy show.”

Bieber and Guetta join previously announced performers Lady Gaga, Bruno Mars, Coldplay, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Jessie J, LMFAO and Snow Patrol.

Queen will be honoured with the Global Icon award.

Some of the big-name nominees not making it to Belfast this weekend include Beyonce, Rihanna, and British singer/songwriter Adele.
